Interesting issues concerning the daily operation of the Municipality were discussed during the special meeting of the Municipal Council of Aegialia with the sole topic of the accountability of the municipal authority for the two months of January-February 2024, a new institution based on Law 5056/2023 and providing for the mandatory convening of a special accountability meeting every two months.
The municipal authority was asked to answer the questions raised by councilors of all factions. At the beginning of the meeting, a draw was made between the issues submitted in time and seven questions from opposition councilors and three from municipal councilors were discussed, as well as two questions drawn from those submitted by Community Chairs.
In his statement, the mayor of Aegialia, Mr. Dimitris Kalogeropoulos, emphasized that the accountability process is a different type of Municipal Council meeting that is related to communication and information, since no voting is foreseen on the issues on the agenda. “The legislator obviously wants to avoid the endless debates of regular meetings and to be more substantive. The reason for this is to always understand and agree with each other in order to end up together somewhere” he concluded.
Among the topics discussed were: measures to deal with the lack of water ahead of summer, actions to prevent youth delinquency and school bullying and information on recycling clothes through the 40 special bins that were placed in the same number of places in the Municipality, the energy upgrade of the school complex of the 1st EPAL of Aegio, the spatial planning of the Municipality, the reconstruction of the Municipal Stadium of Aegio, the regeneration of the coastal zone N.E. Sylivainiotikon, landslide settlements and the Rodia and Selinounda bridges, as well as works in the Communities of Graika, Damakiniou and Salmenikou.
