The partial counting of ballot boxes in Turkey following Sunday evening’s municipal elections reveals a trend favoring the opposition in Istanbul and Ankara, the capital, according to results reported by state media.
With almost 20% of the ballot boxes counted, the outgoing mayor of Istanbul, Ekrem Imamoglu, is in the lead with 49.6%, while his main opponent collects 41.6%. In Ankara, after the counting of 12.4% of the ballot boxes, Mayor Mansur Yavas is in the lead with 56.3%, compared to 36.3% for his opponent.
