The Food and Drug Administration warns against taking anise with some medicines

The Food and Drug Authority warned against taking “anise” with some contraceptive drugs, and other drugs such as “fluoxetine” and “tamoxifen”.

She explained that “anise” reduces the effectiveness of contraceptive drugs that contain estrogen, “fluoxetine” used as an antidepressant, and “tamoxifen” used to treat breast cancer, and increases the effectiveness of “diazepam” used to treat insomnia.

She stated that “anise” has multiple uses in alternative medicine, as it works to relieve pain and disorders of the digestive system, enhance the digestion process, in addition to enhancing the health of the respiratory system and contributing to the treatment of asthma and cough, warning that some people suffer from an allergy to “anise” and plants. Which belong to the same family, such as celery, fennel, dill and coriander.
