What if the future rector of the University of Geneva was not from Geneva? The debate has been heating up for weeks. Because the last two heads in the running were a Belgian and a Canadian. The Assembly of the University deliberated for several hours this Wednesday to reach the final choice. The latter praised the excellence of this professor, both in teaching and in management and direction.
Insufficient internal and female candidates
The Assembly, made up of professors, students and collaborators of the University, however deplored the “strong media pressure” around this designation. She also regretted “having received only one internal candidacy and no female candidacies, both internal and external, and this despite the proactive work of the members of the Assembly”. A reflection on the attractiveness of the position should be initiated. The Council of State must still validate or not, the choice of the new Rector. The latter will be in office for the period 2023-2027.
