THE GOVERNMENT is providing 1,299 public electric vehicle charging stations (SPKLU) in 879 locations to serve electric car users throughout Indonesia during Idul Fitri 1445H/2024. Thousands of SPKLU are open 24 hours a day.

The Main Director of PT PLN (Persero) Darmawan Prasodjo added that his party has provided SPKLU in all rest areas on the homecoming routes of the Trans Sumatra-Java toll road.

“In previous years, SPKLU was only found in certain rest areas. “Now, every rest area has a SPKLU ready to serve the needs of travelers,” he said.

Darmawan said that during this year’s homecoming, PLN added 175 SPKLU units spread across various points on the Java and Sumatra homecoming routes. So nationally, there are 1,299 SPKLU units in 879 locations ready to serve electric car users throughout Indonesia. The SPKLU distribution locations, he said, had been carefully mapped. On the Trans Sumatra-Java toll road, for example, the average distance between SPKLUs is around 23 km.

With the smallest electric car battery capacity of 39 kilowatt-hours (kWh), it has a range of 300 km, so there is no need to worry about long journeys.

“PLN has prepared SPKLUs on homecoming routes from Merak to Banyuwangi and Bakauheni to Palembang with an average distance between SPKLUs of around 23 km. “So, it is safe to go home using an electric vehicle,” he added.

Darmawan said that until D-3 of Eid al-Fitr 1445 H, transactions using SPKLU by the public had increased significantly. PLN noted that the number of transactions at SPKLU increased fivefold in the homecoming flow period in 2024 compared to the same period in 2023, from 906 transactions to more than 4,500 transactions.

Meanwhile, in terms of power consumption, in the homecoming flow period from 2024 to H-3 of Eid, it will increase 5.2 times compared to the homecoming flow period in 2023, namely from 17 MWh to more than 92.4 MW.

Not only focusing on four-wheeled electric vehicles, PLN has also prepared 1,839 units of public electric vehicle battery exchange stations (SPBKLU) for two-wheeled electric vehicles. (Z-8)
