The governor launches the XXI Academic Congress of the Regional High Specialty Hospital “Dr. “Juan Graham Casasús”
Award Medals of Merit to outstanding personnel in administrative, nursing and external medicine functions, as well as in areas related to health

Governor Carlos Manuel Merino Campos inaugurated the Academic Congress of the Regional High Specialty Hospital “Dr. Juan Graham Casasús”, which in its 21st edition addresses transitional and translational medicine, a new concept that reaffirms the sense of social responsibility of the profession and facilitates the path from basic research to clinical applications that benefit health.

Accompanied by the Secretary of Health, Silvia Guillermina Roldán Fernández; the mayor of Centro, Yolanda Osuna Huerta; and the general director of the hospital, Víctor Manuel Narváez Osorio, Carlos Merino called on the new generations of doctors to exalt the spirit of service, and maintain the warmth that must characterize quality care at all times, and not be dehumanized by coldness or frivolity that technological advances can generate.

Before specialists and medical students, the president urged future professionals to make it their business to resume traditions that have been lost over time, such as ‘that sacrifice of going to the communities where it is most needed; That is the spirit of the Fourth Transformation in which we are: do not leave anyone aside or behind, we must go where it is most needed.’

In the forum called “Transitional and Translational Medicine, Medical Care with Social Responsibility”, whose opening day was attended by the rector of the Juárez Autonomous University of Tabasco (UJAT), Guillermo Narváez Osorio, the governor presented recognitions to health workers who, due to merit, effort, commitment and responsibility, carry out their work in administrative functions, nursing and external medicine, as well as in areas related to health.

In this framework, technician Manuel Rodríguez Barrientos was awarded the Medal of Administrative Merit; with the Medal of Merit in Nursing to María Trinidad Sánchez de la Cruz; with the Medal of Medical Merit to Dr. Jesús Ruiz Macosay; with the Medal of External Merit to Dr. Juan Miguel Abdó Francis; with the Medal for Allied Health Professions to the social worker, Beatriz Elena Conde Ramírez.

The Chief Executive pointed out that with these distinctions, the state and the health sector recognize the value of the contribution that they have all made to the service of the Tabasco population.

From the auditorium of the UJAT Entrepreneurship Center, the governor asserted that this space for academic, professional and human exchange will further strengthen the link of the triad: Government-Health Sector-Population, to continue expanding horizons; disseminate scientific and technological advances; and bring the results of basic research closer to clinical practice, in order to improve the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of diseases.

He explained that translational medicine is a way to innovate in health, which is why it requires the collaboration of researchers, doctors, industry and society, to generate effective and accessible solutions to health problems that affect the population.

Carlos Manuel Merino emphasized in this sense that the highly specialized hospitals “Dr. Juan Graham Casasús” and del Niño “Dr. Rodolfo Nieto Padrón” are national leaders in translational medicine, since they have a highly qualified human team, modern infrastructure and cutting-edge equipment, which allows them to carry out research tasks and provide quality medical care.

‘These hospitals have been pioneers and leaders in the development and implementation of new techniques and therapies for the management of various pathologies, such as cancer, cardiovascular diseases, neurological diseases and infectious diseases, among others,’ he said, and stressed that throughout this process, the social commitment offered by the staff for the benefit of the most vulnerable population has always been evident.

‘EXAMPLE OF EXPERIENCE AND ENTHUSIASM’

On the opening day, Merino Campos reported that during the congress, health professionals and students will be able to learn about advances and challenges of transition medicine, through keynote lectures, workshops and round tables, which will be given by 124 national-class professors. and international.

Silvia Roldán stressed that the “Juan Graham” staff represents an example of experience, commitment, effort and enthusiasm, but above all of unity and good results, which was demonstrated during the health emergency caused by COVID-19.

‘The teaching that this hospital gave us in unity, in work, in solidarity, was impressive; from having to give the patients’ families that piece of certainty that they were well cared for; And what can we say about the work of the social workers, the group of psychologists, the nurses… that work taught us solidarity, it taught us a lot about suffering and it taught us to approach things in a different way,’ said the state official.

In turn, Víctor Narváez said that the Academic Congress comprehensively brings together the training and professionalization tasks promoted by the ‘Juan Graham’ Hospital, and that on previous dates they began with the celebration of the 38th Day of Medicine, the 28th Day of Nursing and the 26th Social Work Conference.

He explained that since last Monday academic meetings with imaging residents have started, and there have been activities with topics of sexual and workplace harassment, palliative care, timely detection of cervical cancer, diagnosis and management of first-level oncology patients, in addition to a day of neurosurgical instrumentation and courses on interculturality and nutrition, among other topics, in which more than 800 people have participated.

Narváez Osorio said that translational medicine ‘is nothing more than that part where clinicians have to understand that we cannot face the fight alone, that we need other disciplines, that we need genomics, molecular medicine, cellular biology, nanotechnology, and bioethics’.

He pointed out that when all these disciplines are brought together in the clinical part, then we can work on solutions to new problems that, when approached from a single perspective, had no solution, and also to old problems that, despite the years, still do not have a clear answer.
