The Governor Suffers a Major Setback: Senate Members’ Removal Overturned by High Court

On 24th March 2023 at 11:52 AM IST, the governor (also the chancellor) withdrew the senate members of Kerala University for not establishing a search committee to select a new vice-chancellor. The High Court quashed the Governor’s action against Senate members after a bench of Justice Satish Nainan heard a petition filed by the ousted members of the Senate. The verdict stated that the Governor’s action was illegal and would not stand. Arif Muhammad Khan suffered a significant setback because of the verdict. The Governor withdrew the Senate members, and the petitioners demanded the quashing of his action, which the High Court upheld.

Kochi: Governor Arif Muhammad Khan suffered a heavy blow in the case against the withdrawal of Senate members of Kerala University. High Court quashed Governor’s action against Senate members.

The High Court verdict was on a petition filed by the ousted members of the Senate. A bench of Justice Satish Nainan stated that the Governor’s action will not stand.

The governor, who is also the chancellor, withdrew the senate members of Kerala University for not forming a search committee to find a new vice-chancellor. The petitioners demanded that the Governor’s action should be quashed as it was illegal. The High Court verdict upheld this.



In a verdict that has come as a huge blow to Governor Arif Muhammad Khan, the High Court has quashed his action against the Senate members of Kerala University. The bench of Justice Satish Nainan has declared that the Governor’s action will not stand, upholding the demand of the ousted members of the Senate to have their action deemed illegal. The Governor had withdrawn these members for not forming a search committee to appoint a new vice-chancellor. With this verdict, justice has been served, and the Senate members can now continue their efforts to find a new vice-chancellor for Kerala University.
