the great powers engage against the arms race

France has pledged to fight the arms race, alongside four other great powers. In a context of international tensions, the five countries wish to prevent the risks of war “That cannot be won”.

The initiative is quite exceptional to be relieved, assure Bloomberg. China, France, Russia, the United States and the United Kingdom agreed this Monday, January 3 to act against nuclear proliferation, in order to avoid a conflict between great powers.

In a joint declaration qualified as “rare” by the American media, the five nuclear powers affirm “that a nuclear war cannot be won and must never be fought ”. They claim to want “Prevent further dissemination [des armes nucléaires]”, which should not be used, “As long as they exist”, that “Defensive purposes, deterrence and prevention of war”.

These states are currently negotiating in Vienna with Iran, to relaunch the 2015 agreement on its nuclear program. In their press release, they affirm their will “To work with all states to create a security environment that allows for further progress in disarmament, with the ultimate goal of a world free of nuclear weapons”.
