Hamburg (ots) From September 8th to 10th, 2023, Hamburg will once again become a hotspot for cruise fans: the Hamburg Cruise Days are back in their old form. Nine cruise ships, the Blue Port Hamburg and a high-quality program on land and water then ensure a unique maritime atmosphere, great enthusiasm – and guaranteed a little wanderlust. AIDA Cruises is on board as a premium partner.

Every two years, hundreds of thousands of “Sehleute” make a pilgrimage to the Hamburg harbor edge. Their goal: an event that is unique in the world – the Hamburg Cruise Days. After a forced break due to the pandemic and a reduced edition (Hamburg Cruise Days pur) last year, the internationally popular maritime event took place for the ninth time and in its old size in the port of Hamburg. From September 8 to 10, 2023, the “most beautiful cruise festival in the world” will once again take people on an atmospheric journey: with a colorful program of information, entertainment, culture and cuisine on land, with nine cruise ships in port and three atmospheric productions the water.

Michael Otremba, Managing Director Hamburg Tourismus: “The Hamburg Cruise Days are unique in combination with the Blue Port. They are so popular with many Hamburg residents and guests because the staging of the port in connection with the cruise ships arouses very deep emotions. We are delighted an atmosphere that other port cities envy.”

Three days, nine ships – and the premium partner AIDA Cruises

Nine very different ships will be on display over the three days of the event – from imposing ocean cruisers to sleek expedition ships and charming river cruise ships: AIDAprima, AIDAperla and AIDAsol (to AIDA Cruises), Artania (Phoenix Journeys), my ship 6 (TUI Cruises), MS Thurgau Chopin (Thurgau Travel), MS Sans Souci (PLANTOURS cruises), VASCO DA GAMA and WORLD VOYAGER (both nicko cruises) will call at the Port of Hamburg over the three days.

For the sixth time in a row, AIDA Cruises was won as the premium partner of the event. The shipping company will be there with three ships this year – and will once again be present on land with the popular “AIDA Holiday World” at the Kehrwiederspitze.

“When I see how much commitment and passion everyone involved is planning this highlight, then we can look forward to unique and thrilling cruise moments for the industry in general and for Hamburg in particular as the gateway to the world,” says Sven Jacobsen, Vice President Communication & Sustainability . “The cruise connects countries, cultures and people like no other form of vacation. We want to convey this spirit of peaceful coexistence to all visitors,” affirms Jacobsen.

Culture and cuisine, entertainment and breathtaking productions: the harbor edge as a world of experience

In the port and on the Elbe there will be spectacular productions this year, such as the Blue Port Hamburg (September 1 – 10, see Blue Port Hamburg), the Great Hamburg Cruise Days Parade on the Saturday of the event or the “Rhapsody in Blue” on Friday evening (see events on the water).

Of course, the Hamburg Cruise Days 2023 also invite you to “land leave”: On the event area between Landungsbrücken and the Elbphilharmonie, visitors can expect a mixture of culture, cuisine, entertainment and activities for all generations and interests

(please refer Landprogramm). Numerous partners and sponsors present themselves here – and of course the participating shipping companies AIDA Cruises, TUI Cruises, MSC Cruises, nicko cruises and Cunard Line with information and entertainment as well as offers for cruise fans and everyone who wants to become one (see Country presentations of the shipping companies).

“The Hamburg Cruise Days offer cruise experiences on land and up close – and they create a very special atmosphere in the port of Hamburg that arouses longing and wanderlust,” explains co-organizer Katja Derow (redroses communications). “We are pleased to be able to present the event again this year in the old strength and with popular as well as new highlights. Hamburg residents and guests from all over the world can look forward to eventful days and atmospheric evenings.”

Sustainability – a big topic for shipping companies and tour operators

The Hamburg Cruise Days offer a stage for the cruise industry as well as for the public discussion about the sustainability of the industry. This year, too, the participating shipping companies will therefore actively address the topic in their country presentations and present their achievements – eg with technical content and multimedia information.

“The cruise industry has set itself ambitious sustainability goals and has the high aspiration to reconcile sustainability and growth. As the organizer of this event, we observe and welcome that,” explains co-organiser Uwe Bergmann (uba). The sustainable planning and implementation of the event itself are also a central aspect of the Hamburg Cruise Days. For this purpose, a sustainability concept was developed that includes, among other things, a waste avoidance strategy and a waste separation system across the entire site. Further measures are a one-way ban, climate-friendly communication, reusable systems and digital information options for gastronomic offers. The “Green Fork” seal system indicates sustainable gastronomy. A low-barrier design and the use of an internal “green checklist” to record CO2 emissions for water, electricity and waste are also part of the concept.

The highlights of the Hamburg Cruise Days 2023

BLUE PORT HAMBURG

Daily from September 1st to 10th, always from 8:30 p.m.: Blue Port Hamburg

It has been associated with the Hamburg Cruise Days since 2008, but also stands for itself as a work of light art and attracts thousands of people to the port in the evening hours: the Blue Port Hamburg, staged by Michael Batz. As in previous years, the light artist is dividing his work of art into two phases: the Blue Port Hamburg Art from 1st to 7th September and the Blue Port Hamburg Event, which will be accompanied by other productions during the Hamburg Cruise Days. With the light-up on September 1st, the edge of the harbor will be bathed in the first blue light, after which the work of light art will continue to grow into the harbor every day until it shines in all its glory on the event weekend.

This year, the Blue Port will include around 40 “construction sites”, as Michael Batz calls the buildings, ships and objects he has illuminated in the port, with around 4,000 points of light. The lights are controlled by timers. The existing public light, which is set to blue with filters and lamp replacement, plays a large part in the project.

A very special event is this year’s inclusion of the Blue Port Hamburg in the Open Monument Day on September 9th: The cultural network for Jewish and non-Jewish interested parties MIT2WO invites you to a song recital cruise through the blue-illuminated Hamburg harbor – “Hafn-Lider”. is the name of the musical-poetic program that tells of the Jewish history of the port of Hamburg.

When asked about the best vantage point for his light art work, Michael Batz advises: “There is no such thing as the best location, the harbor is too big for that. I can only recommend strolling around, letting yourself drift, preferably with time and in good company , or hop on a launch and discover the Blue Port from the water.”

EVENTS ON THE WATER

Friday night, September 8, 9:15 p.m.: Rhapsody in Blue

A feast for the eyes and ears and the first highlight of the event awaits visitors on Friday evening with the production “Rhapsody in Blue”. Then the port and the deep sea explorer VASCO DA GAMA by nicko cruises will be staged in front of the mystical blue background of the Blue Port Hamburg – accompanied by music, moderation and blue fireworks.

Saturday evening, September 9, 9:00 p.m.: the Big Hamburg Cruise Days Parade

Five cruise ships – AIDAprima, Mein Schiff 6, VASCO DA GAMA, WORLD VOYAGER, MS Sans Souci – are moving down the Elbe together. The breathtaking spectacle is accompanied by music and moderation by the Hamburg actor Marek Erhardt. The parade is led by AIDAprima; each of the following ships is accompanied by a fireworks sequence. With the MS Sans Souci, a river cruise ship is taking part in the parade for the first time. A final fireworks display is the crowning highlight of the evening.

Sunday, September 10, from 7:00 p.m.: AIDA Sailaway

“Sail away, sail away, sail away…” – guests of AIDA Cruises know and love it, the AIDA run-out song, which creates a special mood every time we cast off. Also on Sunday evening of the Hamburg Cruise Days, the wanderlust will increase again with the “AIDA Sailaway”, when AIDAperla and AIDAsol leave the port together, accompanied by music and moderation.
