As part of his direct contacts and regular consultations with the populations, the Head of State, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, chaired on Wednesday July 20, 2022 in Dapaong, a major meeting for exchanges with the populations of the Savannah Region.
The Head of State did not need to be asked to descend into the mass to salute the patriotism, courage and resilience of the communities of the region.
Taking into account the particular circumstances which did not allow a suitable and worthy tribute in memory of the recent victims of the terrorist attacks, this meeting was an opportunity for the government to unite its prayers with those of the populations for the rest of the souls of the said victims. Ecumenical prayer has also enabled the region and the country to be entrusted to God.
Opening the meeting, the Head of State thanked the populations for their mobilization and their warm welcome. He praised their patriotism and their courage in the face of hardships and urged them to maintain cooperation with the authorities, particularly the defense and security forces. He expressed the wish that the exchanges be free and courteous and lead to proposals to curb the deadly and destructive attacks.

The people, while renewing their confidence in the President of the Republic and the government, as well as in the defense and security forces, have made relevant proposals in the context of the fight against terrorism. These proposals will contribute to fueling and enriching the strong decisions and measures imposed by the circumstances, with a view to preserving human lives and strengthening the security and protection of populations and the national territory.
In this spirit, the President of the Republic reaffirmed the government’s firm determination to intensify efforts and commitment to overcome the deadly attacks recorded in the Savannah region.
He called on the population to become aware of the sacrifices that the current situation imposes on us and said he was confident about the adhesion and support of the populations in favor of the efforts necessary to ensure the inevitable victory against the armed terrorist groups.
Finally, the Head of State reiterated his desire to continue this policy of listening and proximity to the populations and urged them to be more vigilant, while congratulating their resilience.
