Canberra: About 50 people fell ill after eating spinach bought from a major supermarket. Those who bought baby spinach from a Cost Co supermarket in New South Wales, Australia, experienced discomfort.

Most of them had symptoms similar to intoxication. Seventeen out of fifty people came to the hospital for treatment. There are reports that the leaves of some other plant may have been packed along with the spinach. Following the allegations, the company has completely withdrawn the stock of this batch of spinach.
The Department of Health has informed those who currently buy spinach to be careful if there are two types of leaves in the group, and if so, they should return it to the supermarket or throw it away.
