In view of the major technological changes, the digitalization of Moroccan agriculture is now seen as mandatory. The sector which succeeded in its structural transformation in the past is currently entering a new phase of its development. The hour of the agricultural digital revolution has come. The objective is to connect 2 million farmers and users to agricultural e-services by 2030.

An orientation that fully meets the provisions of the “Green Generation 2020-2030” agricultural strategy. By taking this step, Moroccan agriculture will not only consolidate its resilience but will align itself with international practices. Aware of its challenges, the supervisory authority is embarking on the digital transformation of the sector. A vision is being developed to determine the priority levers for the transition to agriculture 4.0 as well as the cross-functional projects that accompany the modernization programs in this sector both upstream and downstream. This new shift will strengthen the efficiency of the agricultural value chain and provide it with effective tools, thus enabling it to improve its productivity and competitiveness.
To do this, the supervisory authority has allocated a budget of more than 4.5 million dirhams to draw up a study to define the axes of the sector’s digitization strategy.

A detailed action plan will follow, encompassing priority schemes, projects and measures. The idea is also to set the organizational model, the governance and the implementation schedule.
It should be noted that the “digital center for agriculture, forestry and drought observatory” was recently launched. This public interest grouping is made up of 12 players representing the public and private sectors. This cluster’s mission is to co-create with the various actors and partners development opportunities for each individual and each link in the value chains of the agricultural sector, in particular through market-oriented research and development programs, valuation services and of innovation, digital education events and facilities, to make the agridigital ecosystem cohesive. The launch of this center was crowned by the conclusion last January of six partnership agreements.

The first was concluded with the National Institute of Agronomic Research. Its objective is to facilitate research & development work and innovation and technology transfer services in the areas of digitalization of the Moroccan sector and drought monitoring.
The center has also entered into a partnership with ONCA with a view to setting up mechanisms for operating the Office’s meteorological stations and enhancing their data for the benefit of the platforms of the Agricultural Council, the Drought Observatory and research and development programs of the digital division.

Two other specific agreements have been signed respectively with the Association Agripole Innovation Meknes (Agrinova) and the Technopark. Their purpose is to define the terms and conditions of collaboration in the fields of digital agriculture and agriculture 4.0 and to put in place the necessary mechanisms to facilitate the connection between start-ups and the key components of the department of farming.

The cluster has also sealed an agreement with the Euromed University of Fez (UEMF) with a view to defining the methods of collaboration between the two parties in areas of common interest, particularly in terms of training, scientific and technical research, sharing of information and know-how.
