The people most affected by anxiety are female, up to 70%, says Célida Duque Molina, director of medical services at the IMSS.

Mental health is essential for the well-being of Mexico and of society in general, since some conditions influence the state of mind and behavior of people.

Mental illnesses, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), will affect one in eight people at some point in their lives; mental health is a condition that allows us a balance point in emotional, mental and physical well-being.

In Mexico, mental illnesses are among the first seven reasons for consultation, according to specialists following the covid-19 pandemic, the number of medical appointments increased between 2019 and 2021.

“Four million people in which the most frequent symptom is anxiety and the most affected people are precisely those of the female sex, up to 70%,” says Célida Duque Molina, director of medical services at the IMSS.

On the other hand, in the case of men, a condition such as suicide attempt is much more frequent in them, according to Norma Palacios, head of the IMSS mental health program.

Specialists recommend implementing tools to learn to recognize emotions and go to a consultation as soon as necessary; Eating a balanced diet, sleeping well and exercising are the factors that contribute to improving and caring for our mental health.
