Kozhikode: Against Samasta’s position that they can participate in the CPIM seminar on a single civil code, Dr. Bahauddin Muhammad Nadvi. In a post on Facebook, he said that CPI(M) is the people who advocated for the implementation of Uniform Civil Code in Kerala three and a half decades ago and they should be watched carefully.

The leadership of the organization had announced the other day that all representatives would participate in the seminar held by the CPI(M) against the Single Civil Code. This response of Bahauddin Nadvi is in the meantime.

A strong awareness should be created among all secular-democratic believers against the bill which is not conducive to the unity of the country. Bahauddin said that instead of protesting on the streets, ideological protest against fascism should also be made possible.

“Some interested parties are trying to make this law, which affects all communities, a problem for Muslims only. It is an issue that affects all religions, Dalits and tribals and castes, as people living in different religions and castes with multifaceted cultures have their own legal systems.

India’s current jurisprudence is different. For example, French law still prevails in Puducherry. Similarly, Goa has laws like the Special Marriage Act.
Bahauddin Nadvi added that interfering with laws that are intertwined with religion, language and culture is not a threat to a democratic system.

The central movement to implement the Uniform Civil Code in the country has been activated.
It was agreed in the meeting of representatives of Muslim organizations that because it is a constitutional issue that affects our social system, all the secular believers should fight unitedly against the UCC.

The decision was the same in the special convention under the auspices of Samasta Kerala Jamiatul Ulama. The same decision was taken by the core committee of the Muslim Coordination Forum yesterday.
By implementing such controversial laws, the central government only intends to fulfill the fascist goal of turning democratic secular India into an extremist Hindu state.

The civil code is the only thing left for the administration, which has enacted many divisive laws over the past nine years. It is impossible to implement this kind of law in a pluralistic India where people of different religions, castes and tribes live with different beliefs.

It is very interesting to see that different views have come from different parts of the country against this government’s crude policy. The latest example is the North-Eastern states and tribal groups who have openly expressed their displeasure.

Some interested parties are trying to make this law, which affects all communities, a problem for Muslims only.

Interfering with laws that are intertwined with religion, language and culture is not a threat to a democratic system. We must envision integrity within different cultures, inclusive of all religions.

A strong awareness should be created among all secular-democratic believers against the bill which is not conducive to the unity of the country. Instead of taking to the streets to protest, ideological protest against fascism needs to be made possible.

Those who advocated for the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code in Kerala three and a half decades ago now have a different agenda behind shedding crocodile tears against the UCC.
Such people need to be watched very carefully.
