the importance of the last 10 days of ramadan (imam)

This hadith is proof that the last ten days of Ramadan have a special virtue more than any other (day), in which one should increase in obedience and acts of worship, such as prayer, dhikr ( recall) and recitation of the Qur’an.

Aisha (radiallahu ‘anha) described our Prophet and role model, Muhammad (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa salam), with four attributes:

1. He (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa salam) “spent his night in worship”, ie he did not sleep. Thus, he (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa salam) stayed awake in worship and enlivened his soul by spending the night not sleeping. For sleep is the brother of death. The meaning of “spent his night” is that he (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa salam) spent it in qiyam (night prayer) and in acts of worship for Allah, the Lord of the worlds. We must remember that the last ten days of Ramadan are fixed and counted.

2. He (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa salam) “woke up his family”, that is to say his pure wives, the Mothers of the believers, so that they could enjoy this good, the dhikr and the acts of worship during these blessed times.

3. He (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) “redoubled his efforts”, i.e. he (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa sallam) persevered and struggled in worship, adding more to his deeds than what he had done the first twenty days (of Ramadan). He was doing this because the night of Al-Qadr comes on one of these (last ten) days.

4. He (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa salam) “tightened his Izar (loincloth)” ie he applied himself and struggled intensely in worship. It is also said that this means that he (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa salam) would withdraw from women. This seems to be more correct since it leans towards what was mentioned earlier and towards the hadith of Anas (radiallahu ‘anhu): “He (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa salam) would fold his bed and withdraw from women (that is- i.e. his wives). » see lata’ifel ma’arif

Also, he (sallallaahu ‘alayhi wa salam) was observing Al-‘Itikaf on the last ten days of Ramadan and the person who is in the state of Itikaf cannot have (sex) intercourse with his wives.》he introduced before adding this: “The preservation of prayer at night: So, O Muslim brother, strive to characterize yourself by these attributes. And preserve the prayer that you make in the depths of the night (tahajjud) with the imam in addition to the tarawih prayer (which is prayed in the first parts of the night), so that your effort these last ten days go further than the first twenty. And so that you can achieve the attribute of “spent the night in worship” by praying.

And you must be patient in your obedience to Allah, indeed tahajjud (night) prayer is difficult, but its reward is great. By Allah, this is a great opportunity in life and something to be enjoyed, for whomever Allah grants it. And the person does not know whether, perhaps, he will meet one of the many rewards of Allah during the night prayer, which will be a help to him in this world and in the hereafter.

The pious predecessors of this Umma strove to lengthen the prayer at night. As-Sa’ib Ibn Yazid said: “’Umar Ibn Al-Khattab ordered Ubay ibn Ka’b and Tamim Ad-Dari to lead the people in prayer with eleven raka’at. The reader recited one hundred verses, to the point that we had to lean on pieces of wood because of the long (standing) position. And we would only stop when approaching Fajr. » Al Muwatta

‘Abdullah Ibn Abi Bakr reported: “I heard my father (i.e. Abu Bakr) say: ‘During Ramadan, we finish (the night prayer) late and we pressure the servants to present the food (of suhur) lest Fajr come. » Al-Muwatta

There are two struggles of the soul that the believer faces during Ramadan: the struggle in the day with fasting and the struggle at night with qiyam (night prayer). So, whoever combines these two and fulfills their rights, then he is among the patient – those of whom Allah says: “the enduring will have their full reward without counting” [sourate Az-Zumar : 15]

These ten days are the last part of the month and a person’s actions are worth only by their end. And maybe he will meet the night of Al-Qadr, standing in prayer for Allah and thus have all his past sins forgiven.

And it is necessary to incite, to animate and to persuade his family to carry out the acts of adoration, particularly in these great moments which only the one who has been deprived neglects. What is more incredible is that while people perform prayer and do tahajjud, some spend their time in forbidden sittings and sinful deeds. This is indeed the greatest loss. We ask Allah for His protection.

So to engage in these last days means to enter into the profit of godly deeds in what remains of the month. Among the unfortunate things is to see that some people excel in pious deeds, such as prayer and recitation of the Qur’an, in the early part of the month, but then the signs of fatigue and weariness appear on them, especially when the last ten days of Ramadan are coming. And this despite the fact that the last ten days have a greater position than the first. Thus, one must persevere in the effort and the struggle and increase one’s adoration when the end of the month arrives. And we must bear in mind that a person’s actions are only as good as their end.

It should be noted that since March 23, the Muslim faithful have begun this march towards the creator in fasting, prayer, abstinence, sharing and forgiveness.
