A certain amount of mystery remains regarding the dismissal of Marc Bergevin by the Montreal Canadiens, but his good friend Paul Wilson assures that the former general manager is doing well.

The former Habs manager is now assistant to GM Rob Blake at the Los Angeles Kings. He travels a lot and meets a lot of people. Wilson, the former vice-president of Groupe CH, speaks to him several times a month.

He explained Wednesday on the “JiC” show, on TVA Sports, that Bergevin had coped well with his dismissal and adversity.

“The former CEOs are special idiots. They’ve been through this their whole lives. […] It’s certain that when that happens, your self-esteem takes a little hit, but Marc got through that. He has no grudges against anyone. He’s in Los Angeles, he’s very happy,” explained Wilson, who now works at National with Andrew Molson.

He also believes that the Canadian has “the wind in its sails” recently, despite the reconstruction. GM Kent Hughes and his vice-president of hockey operations Jeff Gorton are doing well according to him.

“I think they’re doing a good job. Now, Montreal being what it is and having experienced it from the inside, people are sure to be patient. There is a kind of honeymoon which in my opinion is stretching a little, which is very correct, but the fans are going to ask for results at some point,” believes Wilson.

“A reconstruction is not necessarily done in three years. It might take five. I think the management of the Canadian is taking the right actions, but there will come a time when it will be more difficult.
