The iPad will they switch to OLED? The question is asked for months, but often contradictory rumors have so far prevented us from seeing clearly. An increasingly complete set of clues now allows us to believe it. It seems that things are indeed being prepared from an industrial point of view, to allow tablets toApple to switch to OLED panels by 2024. This is what the specialized site claims 9to5Macwhich compiles the information we already have with new elements reported by The Elec.

Often well-informed when it comes to industrial issues and information specific to supply chains, the Korean media reports today that the Chinese manufacturer BOE has also started to prepare its production lines for a new generation of OLED screens, specially intended for future iPads. Its production would be ready to flow by the end of 2024.

Samsung, LG and BOE all three mobilized for future iPads…

BOE would be a third OLED screen supplier for Apple, which already has Samsung Display and LG Display. Samsung would have started a few months ago to develop a new variant of OLED technology supposed to allow better longevity while doubling the maximum luminance of the panels. He too would be ready to sell these new slabs to Apple by 2024.

For its part, LG recently revealed a doubling of OLED screen production at its factory dedicated to advanced display solutions. This increase in production would notably concern screens of sizes corresponding to the usual diagonals of iPads.

The third man, BOE, meanwhile, would provide “a production capacity of 15,000 substrates per month“says The Elec. This large-scale production would take place within its factory in Chengdu, in central China. Interestingly, the media also suggests that some of these OLED panels would also be used for future MacBook models.
