The iPhone is killing the photo market

Can the iPhone kill the photography market? That’s what Canon and Nikon seem to say.

Currently, there are still two types of people: those who take photos with their smartphone and those who use a digital camera of the “reflex” type.

To satisfy both types of photographers, there are on the market either iPhones or reflex cameras intended for the general public.

Main leaders in the “SLR” market, Canon and Nikon feel the Apple wave coming behind them and must take action to hope to survive in the face of this fierce competition.

Canon and Nikon arrest the general public

Canon unsheathed the first, saying that it was going to stop their consumer range to focus on a range aimed at photo professionals. Nikon has just followed suit and also announces that it wants to focus on higher-end and more powerful products.

According to Nikkei Asia sources, the D6 is expected to be Nikon’s last DSLR model, while the D3500 will be its last consumer model. For its part, Canon explains that the 1 D Mk III will be its last consumer model.

Apple cannibalizes the market

Apple continues to work on the quality of its photos. Better software management, better sensors, better components mean that the gap is considerably reduced between the use of the iPhone and the use of a “reflex” camera.
