The James Webb Telescope captures a picture of the Tarantula Nebula

LOS ANGELES, Sept. 6, 2022 (Xinhua) — NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope has captured an image of the Tarantula Nebula, the agency said Tuesday.

The Tarantula Nebula is located 161,000 light-years from Earth in the Large Magellanic Cloud galaxy, closest to our Milky Way. The Tarantula Nebula is the largest and brightest star-forming region in the Local Group, and home to the hottest and most famous stars, according to the agency.

The agency said that the Webb Telescope’s near-infrared camera helped researchers see the region “with new light, including tens of thousands of young, never-before-seen stars that were previously surrounded by cosmic dust.”
