Prices continue to soar in supermarkets. The 20 Hours shopping basket is up 15.5% over one year, Thursday January 26. Sugar and eggs in particular have risen sharply.

In January 2023, the receipt of the basket for the 20 Hours increased by 15.5 % over one year. This is the fifth consecutive month of double-digit increases. Sugar hits all-time high, up 36 %, due to poor beet harvests. Eggs increase by 28 %, and the milk of 22 % due to cause of energy costs. The price of jam climbs on its side by 13 %.

The hygiene department also affected

The hygiene department is also affected: + 26 % for entry-level toilet paper, due to rising raw material costs. The price of shampoo climbs on its side by 14 %. Double-digit inflation is expected to continue for another six months, before a lull. The only good news for the French basket, the price of branded pasta has fallen by 6 %. The price of wheat has returned to its pre-war level in Ukraine.
