“Weekly Diamond” April 23 issueThe first special feature is “The strongest middle and high school integrated school & elementary school & cram school for my child”. Taking the junior high school exam is just getting intensified. In the latest 2022 entrance examination, the number of examinees and the examination rate reached a record high in the metropolitan area. But this may still be the beginning. Not to mention the 23rd year entrance exam, which is about 10 months before the actual performance, there are many cram school officials who think that the enthusiasm for the junior high school exam will continue to increase until the first grade of elementary school reaches the junior high school exam. On the other hand, the boom in junior high school exams has arrived in the Kansai and Tokai areas. With the increase in the number of examinees and the influence of Corona’s illness, it is extremely difficult to choose a school, so where are the junior and senior high schools and cram schools that you will not regret? We will make a major dissection, including the elementary school exam, which overheats more than the junior high school exam. (Diamond editorial department Hiroaki Miyahara)

An unprecedented boom in junior high school exams has arrived
What is happening to the group of test takers at major cram schools?

The junior high school exam in the metropolitan area has entered a different world.

The number of examinees in the metropolitan area for the latest 2022 entrance exams was 51,100 in total for private junior high schools and national junior high schools (according to a survey by the Metropolitan Area Mock Examination Center). This is the highest number in history, surpassing 1991 (51,000 people) 31 years ago. Naturally, the rate of taking the 22-year entrance examination was also high, exceeding 17% for the first time at 17.3%.

According to Nichinoken’s data, including those from public junior and senior high schools, the number of examinees was 62,400, an increase of 700 from the previous year, and the examination rate reached 21.1%. Both the number of examinees and the examination rate are the second highest in the past after 2009. In particular, the examination rate in Tokyo was 30.8%, 0.2 points higher than the previous year when it exceeded the 30% mark.

Naturally, children’s “musical chairs” are becoming more intense. The pass rate for boys (total capacity ÷ total number of examinees) has dropped to the low 80% range in the 22nd year entrance exam, and the pass rate for girls has plummeted, and the 100% drop is imminent.

And, behind the overheating of this junior high school exam, there is a change in school selection.
