Melissa Raub says she started wearing makeup at a young age and has only recently been comfortable wearing makeup.

A 20-year-old student became the first person to compete without makeup in the 94-year Miss England pageant.

South London politics student Melissa Raub appeared in the semi-finals of the competition in London this week bare-faced and advanced to the final round.

Tell Robb England does not depend on The newspaper said she believes many women feel pressure to wear makeup, so doing so means a lot to her.

“If someone is satisfied with their skin, they should not cover their face with makeup,” she told the newspaper. “Our flaws make us who we are, and that’s what makes each person unique.”

“I’ve never adhered to beauty standards,” says Raub, who is starting to feel comfortable without makeup.

In a recent Instagram post, she said she was “excited” to participate in the “Empowerment” pageant, writing, “I’m embracing blemishes everywhere and every time.”

Although the organizers of Miss England offered a makeup-free fashion show tour of the 2019 Miss Pageant contest, this is the first time the contestant has ditched makeup completely.

Raub said she found the experience “shocking but amazing” and received many messages from women and girls saying it helped them feel more confident about themselves.

Raub will compete with 40 other women in the final round in October.

“I put makeup on to enhance your natural beauty,” she said, “but guys don’t need to apply it so thickly that it looks like a mask.”
