The announcement of the Medical Association of Patras states:
The Board of Directors unanimously supports the decisions of the regional associations of laboratory doctors to limit their operation, whenever they decide to do so, starting from 08/05/2024, due to the imposition of 12 years of clawback payment calculations.
After the cry of anguish of the sector, which is experiencing a long-term systematic seizure of income with unprecedented, for European standards, compensation cuts exceeding 60%, a tragic lack of liquidity of the laboratories, inability to pay suppliers and specialized scientific staff, which serve reliably and speed, without fail the insured.
For 12 years, the state has been transferring the cost of citizens’ insurance to the country’s doctors, ignoring the unconstitutional practices and the adverse consequences of this abusive measure.
Neighborhood laboratories are closing down, the nation’s freelance diagnosticians are going bankrupt, and Public Hospitals are being emptied of new biopathology, radiology, nuclear medicine, cytology, and pathology specialists, creating a critical blow to disease diagnosis (especially cancer), preventive population control and the public health of the country.
The Board supports the main claims of the laboratory sector:
1) Establishment of a limit (central ceiling) on the amount of clawback up to 5%, beyond which the responsibility will be assumed by the State, with a significant increase in the budget for diagnosis, at the level of the European average.
2) Taking measures for the correct and rational application of prescription, execution and control rules.
3) Prescription of the artificial debt that has been created to date, by 50%.
4) Signing of Collective Agreements through the PIS and the Medical Associations.
Finally, the Board unanimously opposes article 69 of Law 5102/2024 (Government Gazette 55A’ 04/13/24) as a highly unconstitutional and abusive provision.
