India’s Success at the G20 Summit: Diplomacy, Economic Corridors, and Curbing China’s Influence

When the J20 summit concluded in Delhi, it can be judged that it was a gain for India in every way. At the G20 summit held in Bali in 2022, the allied nations were at odds over the Russia-Ukraine war. The summit failed to achieve its declared objective as the countries including the United States and France were against Russia and those in the Russia-China alliance were on the other side. 2023 Even when India became the chairman of G20, the Russia-Ukraine war was still going on. The countries that took sides had expressed their disagreements more forcefully. In this situation, the success of the G-20 India summit was filled with international concerns. But India has shown the skill of diplomacy by surprising the nations of the world. India’s presidency faced challenges from the beginning, but India’s organizational and leadership skills resolved everything.

India now imports oil from Russia at a very cheap rate. It is also of urgent importance that the partnerships between Russia and China should not be detrimental to Indian interests.
For this reason, it is critical for India to make announcements that do not antagonize Russia. In the G20 resolution, India did it commendably without antagonizing anyone. Today, India is shining in front of the world nations for making a joint declaration possible by creating a consensus among the member countries involved in the issue of Ukraine.

At the Bali conference, Russian President Vladimir Putin was sharply criticized for the invasion and aggression of Russia on Ukraine. In the declaration that followed the Delhi conference, India rejected the war. India has put forward the position that the solution to the problems is not war, but consensual discussions. It was accepted by the Allies including Russia.

There was speculation that Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping would not attend the summit, which would tarnish the G20. Putin was almost certain not to attend the summit because he had an arrest warrant from the International Court of Justice for war crimes. China, which is intolerant of India’s growth and success, has been deliberately intruding on the border and creating conflict situations for a long time and has been showing its intolerance. Chinese President Xi Jinping will never enter a stage where India’s fame and glory rise. His pressure tactics only isolated China further. Meanwhile, Russia sent its Foreign Minister and China’s Prime Minister to ensure their representation.

At the conclusion of the summit, the achievement for India is the India-Central Asia-Europe Economic Corridor. This corridor, which connects the three vast countries through rail and sea routes, will become a route to strengthen economic and political ties between the partner countries. This corridor will be an alternative to the Belt Road project that Pakistan and China are trying to implement. India, America, Saudi Arabia, European Union, France, Germany and Italy are participating in the construction of the corridor. The corridor project, which will create huge employment opportunities, will also reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The project will provide a sustainable direction for global connectivity and development. The Pakistan-China Belt Road project is now in crisis. Italy has withdrawn from the project. The member countries participating in the project have fallen into a huge debt trap by taking loans from Chinese banks.

Economists point out that the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor, initiated by India, will become an effective medium for economic integration between India, West Asia and Europe. They also say that India’s trade with Europe will be 40 percent faster.

The 55-nation African Union got permanent membership in the G20 group as a result of India’s diplomatic moves. The move will help curb China’s growing influence in African countries and garner support for India’s demand for permanent membership in the UN Security Council.

The key announcements at the G20 summit are also very positive. International financial institutions should be reformed, the debt burden of small and middle income countries should be considered, member states should share tax information related to crypto assets, central banks should achieve price stability, food and energy infrastructure should not be destroyed by military aggression, coal use should be reduced, funds for developing countries to achieve climate goals, net zero carbon emissions by 2050. Decisions like the target will bring about positive changes in the future of developing countries like India. Prime Minister Narendra Modi chaired the G20 Summit in which India completed without any mistakes and External Affairs Minister S. Jayashankar, Sherpa Amitabhkanth and Pinani activists have shown unique organizational skills.
