Today, Friday, the Ministry of Electricity confirmed that the memorandum of understanding it signed today with the German company Siemens will add 6,000 megawatts to the national system.

“The importance of the memorandum signed today lies in the fact that it was signed with the most important international companies in the field of energy and will add 6,000 megawatts to the national system,” ministry spokesman Ahmed Al-Abadi told the Iraqi News Agency (INA).

He added, “Working on the memorandum will solve the problems of transportation and distribution in the system and will contribute to the establishment of transmission stations and transmission lines, and this is considered an important part of the priority framework that Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a al-Sudani sets for the electricity file.”

He continued, “Adding 6,000 megawatts and solving transmission and distribution problems will address a large and strategic part of the problems of bottlenecks in the national grid, and will reflect positively and allow for an increase in processing hours after completion.”

He pointed out that “the memorandum of understanding also discussed the details of investing in associated and natural gas to provide revenues for national gas, and this will save large sums of operating expenses that are spent on importing gas and fuel from neighboring countries.”
During the Prime Minister’s visit today to Germany, the Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, signed today, Friday, a memorandum of understanding with the German company Siemens.

The media office of the Prime Minister said in a statement received by the Iraqi News Agency (INA): “The Ministry of Electricity signed a joint memorandum of understanding with Siemens, in a ceremony that took place in the German capital, Berlin, within the framework of the official visit of Prime Minister Muhammad Shia’a al-Sudani to the German capital, Berlin.” that arrived yesterday.
The statement added, “The Minister of Electricity, Ziyad Ali Fadel, signed the memorandum from the Iraqi side, while it was signed by the CEO of Siemens, Christian Bruch.”
He pointed out, “The memorandum of understanding includes a number of basic paragraphs that constitute a map of action for the development of the electricity system in Iraq.”
And the statement continued, “In light of the memorandum, Siemens is working, in coordination with the Ministry of Electricity, to develop an integrated plan for the electricity system in general, which includes solutions to problems, and the company is also establishing new generation stations.”
And the statement continued, “The memorandum of understanding included Siemens presenting an integrated study to Iraq, including how to benefit from associated gas, in supporting and increasing the production of electric energy, and it included signing a long-term agreement, to maintain and rehabilitate operating units in Iraq established by Siemens, as well as For the implementation of renewable energy projects, namely solar energy and wind movement, and the establishment of transmission stations in all regions of Iraq, in addition to developing and qualifying the cadres of the Ministry of Electricity and transferring expertise.
