Cancer is the second most common cause of death after heart disease, yet many people neglect screening for it.
There are some common cancer symptoms that everyone knows, as well as a general feeling of fatigue or unusual lumps and bumps are well-documented signs of this serious disease.
But having a hoarse voice is another common symptom of oral cancer, and your voice may become quieter or more like you’ve got a cold, especially if the cancer is near the back of your throat, according to the charity Cancer Research UK, according to the newspaper “thesun”. .
This could be a sign of hypopharyngeal cancer, a rare form of the disease.
Oral cancer rates have recently doubled, with 8,864 cases diagnosed last year.
Data from the Oral Health Foundation shows that this is a 34% increase compared to ten years ago.
This number has also doubled recently and experts urge people to be aware of the symptoms and signs of this deadly condition.
Doctors believe that sexually transmitted diseases, such as human papilloma virus (HPV), which are contracted through oral sex, are driving the increase in cases.
About 3,034 people in the UK lost their lives to oral cancer last year, an increase of 20% in the past five years.
Dr Nigel Carter OBE, chief executive of the Oral Health Foundation, said it was important for people to recognize the signs, and to see their doctor if they think they are tired.

Ulcers that do not heal.

Red or white patches in your mouth or throat.
Difficulty swallowing.
A lump in your neck.
Weight loss.
Bad breath.
“Signs of oral cancer must be checked because a late diagnosis will have a negative impact on a person’s life and chance of survival,” says geneticist Catherine Rutland of the University of Nottingham.

Oral cancer occurs when cells on the lips or in the mouth develop mutations (mutations) in a cell’s DNA.
The accumulating abnormal mouth cancer cells may form a tumor and, over time, may spread inside the mouth and to other areas of the head and neck, or other parts of the body, according to the Mayoclinic website.
Oral cancers usually begin in the thin, flat cells (squamous cells) that line your lips and the inside of your mouth.
The cause of the mutations in squamous cells is not clear, but there are some factors that may increase the risk of developing oral cancer, including:
1- Smoking.
2- Excessive alcohol intake.
3- Exposing your lips to sunlight in excess.
4- A sexually transmitted virus called human papilloma virus (HPV).
5-weak immune system.
