In parallel, since its founding in 1979, the Islamic Republic has cultivated a network of Allied militias, from the Lebanese Hezbollah to the Iraqi Popular Mobilization Forces, through the Syrian pro-regime paramilitaries and, to a lesser extent, the Palestinian Islamic Jihad or the Yemeni Huthi. For all of them, the assassinated general Qasem Soleimani was the key interlocutor responsible for the operations abroad of the Iranian Revolutionary Guard.
