The Minister of Health discusses cooperation with UNICEF in programs to promote maternal and child health

Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, Minister of Health and Population, received this evening, Sunday, the representative of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) in Egypt, Mr. Jeremy Hopkins and his accompanying delegation, at the Ministry’s general office.

The minister praised, according to the ministry’s statement today, Monday, the role of “UNICEF” in Egypt and its efforts in supporting the services provided by the ministry, praising the fruitful cooperation between the two sides during the past period in programs aimed at promoting maternal and child health in Egypt.

Dr. Hossam Abdel Ghaffar, the official spokesman for the Ministry of Health and Population, said that the minister discussed cooperation with UNICEF in technical support to develop policies, strategies and implementation plans for children’s health programs that are provided through primary care facilities.

Abdel Ghaffar added that the meeting dealt with ways of cooperation to implement the ministry’s strategy, within the initiative of the President of the Republic, “a decent life,” as well as the application of the comprehensive health insurance system, by providing technical and technological support for plans to develop medical facilities, as well as implementing training programs for human cadres, to ensure the provision of services. Medically efficient and high quality.

He added that the minister discussed cooperation in supporting the national strategy for food and nutrition, as well as supporting programs to improve health indicators for children, noting that the minister stressed the importance of cooperation with UNICEF in the field of school feeding, and benefiting from the results of the President’s initiative for early detection and treatment of obesity, anemia and stunting. For school students, in setting the standards of the meal in accordance with the standards and specifications of food safety.

Abdul Ghaffar pointed out that the minister stressed the need to intensify health awareness campaigns aimed at familiarizing families with the various nutrients that should be included in their children’s meals, and ways to prevent malnutrition diseases, in a way that contributes to instilling the foundations of a healthy lifestyle among all segments of society, in addition to intensifying programs Training for workers in primary health care units and centers to raise awareness of proper healthy nutrition.

Abdul Ghaffar stressed that the meeting discussed the continuation of cooperation with UNICEF in providing basic vaccinations for children, within the vaccination schedules approved by the Ministry of Health and Population, praising the organization’s efforts to support polio vaccination campaigns.

The meeting was attended by Dr. Ahmed El-Sobky, Assistant Minister of Health for Monitoring and Follow-up Affairs and Head of the Health Care Authority, Dr. Wael Abdel Razek, Head of the Health Care and Nursing Sector, Dr. Jihan Fouad, Director of the National Institute of Nutrition, and Dr. Suzan Al-Zanati, Director General of the General Department of External Health Relations at the Ministry of Health, and from the UNICEF” Dr. Nevin Doss, Director of the Health Department, Dr. Selena Barractrafic, Director of the Child Development and Survival Department, and Dr. Moataz Saleh, Director of the Nutrition Department at UNICEF.
