The Missing Moroccan Youth: Concerns and Urgent Actions Needed

2024-02-15 22:00:00

Since last October, six young Moroccans from Oujda, Berkane and Ahfir have been missing. Their families have had no news of them since they tried to reach Spain by sea, leaving from the shore of Arzew in Algeria.

Their boat carried 19 people in total, including 6 Moroccans and 13 Algerians. According to information collected by an activist from a relative of one of the missing, the group took to the sea on a small boat.

The lack of news raises serious concerns. The activist claims that many young candidates for illegal immigration are victims of false information disseminated on social networks, also drawing attention to the fate of migrants intercepted by the Algerian authorities, who risk heavy sanctions, including human trafficking charges.

The exact number of Moroccans missing in Algeria remains unknown, but it is probably significant. The activist calls on the authorities to take measures to find out the fate of these young people and to work for their protection.
