Patricia Sartori was born in Bahía Blanca and chose Roca to raise her family and practice medicine at the Hospital. During her study stage, she went through a disease that marked her forever and made her experience firsthand the lack of accompaniment and support from medical professionals.

That experience led her to focus her work on care and containment. «We take care of the physical, emotional, spiritual and psychosocial part. Teamwork is essential to address the situation of the patient and his family, “she says.

The goal of palliative care is to improve the quality of life of patients through pain relief, emotional and spiritual care, and support in making decisions about your health care.

This work not only benefits patients but also their families and loved ones. and they can provide invaluable emotional support during difficult times: “we provide support tools in the disease process and even in the face of the loss of a loved one,” says Patricia.

The Palliative Care project in Roca arose in 2006 as an initiative of the doctor.

«We began to visualize the problem and we began to carry out this type of care. More and more referrals were added until we managed to have our own physical space ». The professionals built the clinics with their lungs and with the collaboration of the community through different solidarity activities.

At Roca there are currently four doctors, five nurses, a secretary, a driver and a maid. The attention is through scheduled visits to the homes of the patients or in the offices.

They work closely with doctors and other health care providers to ensure that patients receive high-quality, coordinated care.

“We meet many patients who are going through terminal illnesses and living completely on their own. In other cases, the family environment relents in accompanying the disease. For this we are promoting the expansion of the offices with the construction of an inpatient center to contemplate these cases and that patients receive the quality care they deserve and do not feel alone, “adds Sartori.

Patients not only have physical pain but also social pain when they feel that they begin to depend on other people.

In addition to providing direct care to patients, hospice workers also play an important role in educating and supporting families of patients. They provide information about the disease process, treatments and palliative care options, and help families deal with the stress and anxiety associated with caring for a seriously ill loved one.

«We find ourselves with many pathologies and diseases that are highly preventable. That is why we also work, we support promotion and prevention activities to prevent anyone from having to be treated by our unit,” he commented.

Working in this service is not an easy task. It requires mutual accompaniment, companionship and sensitivity: «We hold each other. Patients not only have physical pain, but also social pain when they feel that they begin to depend on other people to function in their lives.

Hospice care work is emotionally challenging, as they often work with patients who are at the end of their lives. However, Bonus comes with the opportunity to make a big difference in the quality of life for patients and their families at critical times.
