The mobility puzzle at Heysel: the Stones concert and the others this summer will serve as a test for STIB, bicycle and parking solutions

What pose some mobility concerns, as during each match of the Red Devils at the national stadium as well. That is why he City of Brussels and the concert organizers are offering mobility plans for the first time for each of the seven major concerts of this summer 2022.

The desire is to transport a maximum of the 405,000 spectators expected this summer to the stadium other than by personal car.

Various measures have been taken to this end:

• Each concert ticket for these 7 dates is a STIB combi ticket: it is now an obligation set by the City for the rental of the stadium since this year. Three metro stations serve the stadium, not to mention the tram and the bus. And the STIB increases the number of vehicles on its lines during the period in question
• two huge bicycle parking will be installed at both ends of the stadium, 1,400 seats for the Stones, 3,000 for Sheeran and Coldplay.
• Additional train lines are added by the concert promoters, in collaboration with the SNCB, to the cities providing the most spectators: For Coldplay: Liège, Leuven, Ghent, Ostend, Mechelen, and more
• Combinations with coach travel are also planned, as often via private operators, with specific parking for spectator coaches (price around 20 euros)
• Le Parking C remains generally accessible to spectators; at 10 euros per space so that it remains interesting to park there rather than in the streets of Laeken.

And above all, a study of the consequences of the concerts on mobility in Brussels has been commissioned by the City in order to draw the consequences for the following concerts in 2023. A concert by each artist will be studied in order to have a global vision, and of the different scenarios.
