“The Monarchy Under Threat: Opponents Prepare for Protest and Independence Referendums”

Opponents of the monarchy were preparing for the holiday: they stamped yellow T-shirts and banners. They were followed by thousands of people who renounced the king

I open a social network today. A yellow circle with the inscription “Not my king” catches the eye, replacing the photo on the page of the Scottish girlfriend. Her countrymen have the same yellow plaques. Hmmm, it looks like the newly crowned British monarch Charles III will have a hard time.

– What’s happened? – I’m interested in a friend. For more than 20 years of acquaintance with the kings, she did not express any claims and was always against the secession of Scotland.

– It’s disgusting to spend 250 million pounds on a coronation when we have students in our school who are starving! she gets excited. – It’s time to protest against the monarchy.

– The United Kingdom without a monarchy is like Scotland without whiskey! Do you think it’s possible?

– I doubt it, of course. If it happens, it won’t be soon.

In fact, after the death of the old woman Elizabeth, who knew how to smooth sharp corners, dissatisfaction with the royal family is growing rapidly. Scotland has scheduled another independence referendum for October 2023. In London, they are persistently trying to ban it: they say, you already spoke out eight years ago, what again?!

Nationalist sentiments are growing in the countries of the British Commonwealth – the former colonies, where the English king is considered to be the ruler to this day, are eager for freedom. Barbados fled the British crown two years ago after 400 years of British rule. Others are going to follow his example: referendums are scheduled in the Solomon Islands, Papua New Guinea, Antigua and Barbuda. The Jamaican authorities are postponing the date of the will – they want to secede faster and receive reparations for the years of the slave trade, and they are also waiting for an apology for colonization. And then last year, Prince William, during a visit to human trafficking, of course, condemned, but did not consider it necessary to apologize. In Canada and Australia, so far only rallies are held and the flags of Great Britain are burned.

India does not get tired of making claims: recently, economist Utsa Patnaik calculated that during the years of colonization from 1765 to 1938, the monarchy siphoned out $45 trillion (in modern equivalent) of resources from the country. For comparison: the UK’s annual GDP is $3 trillion. Can you imagine what will happen when all the former colonies bill her?

But the government sees the problem not in the snickering members of the royal family, but in the citizens.

– If you do not want to live in a country where there is a monarchy, then protesting with your stupid slogans is not a solution. The decision – to leave this country – sent people who went out to rallies during the coronation, the deputy chairman of the ruling Conservative Party, Lee Anderson. In vain he is. When the authorities are terribly far from the people, it sometimes ends badly.

Ironed laces

A video from the early 1930s showing several members of the royal family, including the future Queen Elizabeth II, throwing up their hands in a Nazi salute surfaced in 2015.

– Yes, she was seven years old there, she didn’t understand what she was doing, – they brushed off the queen, without saying why the adults nearby were throwing the “ridge”.

There were enough scandals in the noble family: one Prince Harry with his quirks is worth something. But Karl manages to constantly get into ridiculous, then dirty stories.

As a young man, Charles tossed between a passion for tricks with performances on stage and painting – confident in his own talent, he loved to go to the open air. Before picking up a brush and mixing paints, he talked to the trees and introduced himself to the herbs.

When they cut out his tonsils, he ordered them to be soaked in formalin and carried a jar with him everywhere. The girls admitted to the royal body, at the moment of culmination, were forced to address him as “sir.”

He does not put a penny on servants, of which he has more than his mother. Throwing a removed suit on the floor, requiring the laces to be ironed every time shoes are brought to him, and having a special person to squeeze toothpaste onto the brush – kings can do everything! As well as wearing one jacket for forty years, although it is already full of holes and patches. A white leather toilet seat, some brand of toilet paper, a pillow-top bed, linens, a chest of drawers, and two paintings of Scottish landscapes were the things he never went on a trip without.

After the death of his mother, he did not even raise an eyebrow, dismissing a hundred people from his residence: the royal servants passed to him, and these were no longer needed. During the funeral of Elizabeth, he smiled broadly at those who came up to express condolences.

He took money for charity from relatives of Osama bin Laden, sold titles to Saudi tycoons, and somehow blurted out right into the included microphones before a press conference: “I hate journalists!”

Charles seems to have done everything to spoil the story with Princess Diana, which was presented as a beautiful fairy tale. He completely lied about Camille: at first he claimed that they were just old friends, and after the death of his wife he admitted that he always loved only this woman. Then everyone learned from the published record that Charles dreamed of living in Camilla’s panties and was ready to be her tampax. For which he was nicknamed King Tampon the First. Perhaps, with such a ruler, the monarchy is indeed under threat.

Diamond of Discord

The British joked that Carl would be given a Burger King cardboard crown. Of course, everything was as it should be: first, the crown of St. Edward weighing 2.23 kg, adorned with 444 precious stones, was placed on the head of the monarch. It is worn once in a lifetime – during the coronation. The monarch leaves Westminster Abbey already in another – the imperial crown with 2858 diamonds, including the Cullinan II, exported from South Africa, 273 pearls, 17 sapphires, 11 emeralds and five rubies, including the famous “Black Prince”. In it, the king will open the sessions of Parliament.

The crown of Queen Elizabeth, surmounted by the Kohinoor diamond, was decided not to shine once again. And then India (since 1953), Pakistan (since 1976), and in 2000 Afghanistan also pulled itself up to this pebble. Each of the countries considers Kohinoor to be their stolen property.

Choir of the deaf

Karl managed to irritate even the fans of the monarchy, who know the traditions well. After all, after marrying a divorcee, Camilla Parker-Bowles, he had no right to the throne. Mom helped, blessed her son, although she herself asked him to give way to William, whom the people at least respect. Camilla is now called the queen consort, but a loving spouse makes every effort to ensure that this prefix is not used even in official documents.

By the way, the ancient coronation ceremony was brought into line with modern requirements. For example, the anointing was carried out with vegan oil – the secret of the civet glands (this is a tropical animal) was excluded from its composition in order to please the “greens”. A combined choir featuring refugees, deaf people and members of the LGBT community performed at the gala concert. And members of the royal family, except for William, and peers were allowed not to kneel before the monarch, they say, this is “male chauvinism.”
