The Monday Heart Attack Phenomenon: How a Change in Sleep Cycle Increases Risk

2023-06-05 07:11:50

A recent study concluded that Monday is the most common day of the week for heart attacks.

According to the newspaper “The Sun”, experts believe that the reason for classifying this day as the most dangerous is due to a change in the daily sleep cycle of the body following the weekend.

Medics say further research into this phenomenon will help save lives in the future.

Scientists studied data on more than 10,000 hospital patients across Ireland over five years and calculated the odds of having a heart attack for each day of the week.

They found a “strong relationship” between the start of the workweek and the riskiest type of heart attack.

Professor Nilesh Samani, of the British Heart Foundation, called for further research.

“Doing so can help clinicians better understand this fatal condition and save many more lives,” he said.
