Dated December 17, 1950 and rediscovered by chance in the boxes of a record company in 2011, 57 years after its supposed disappearance in the bay of San Francisco, the Joan Anderson Story Letter by Neal Cassady has everything of the ghost monument. Crazy and brilliant, it was this piece of prose that gave Jack Kerouac the inspiration to write one of the major books of the 20th century, the famous On the road.

Its author, an authentic celestial tramp, spent his life of shady adventures in prison, between literary passions, erotic convulsions and stupefying addictions. That the Joan Anderson Story Letter or strictly speaking a letter, in any case with regard to the literary canon which forms the epistolary genre, from Madame de Lafayette to the indescribable duo Houellebecq-BHL, one can doubt it. Fortunately, indeed, there is nothing literary in this letter in the noble sense of the term.
