The Villa Mascardi Neighborhood Council celebrated this afternoon the arrest of the Mapuche leader Facundo Jones Huala and his possible extradition to Chile. Too, They assured that the man had been living in El Bolsón for a long time and denounced complicity on the part of the National Government.
“The subject changed a lot when Jones Huala escaped and came to this side. ANDThey began to commit more illegal acts, more fires of private and state road machinery, they burned down the El Bolsón tourist service center, among other things.. And in recent days, intentional forest fires have multiplied, all the events accompanied by pamphlets referring to the RAM,” said Diego Frutos, president of the neighborhood council, in an interview with the Infobae news site.
The Villa Mascardi area was particularly affected by the occupation in 2017 of three hectares of the Nahuel Huapi National Park. At that time, Jones Huala was serving house arrest in Temuco, in southern Chile.
Frutos himself claimed to have seen the Mapuche activist in the place, just months after the incident. From that moment there were no news in the country of the presence of Jones Huala.
«He moved permanently from El Bolsón to Mallín Ahogado and Cuesta del Ternero accompanied by his brothers Fausto and Fernando, with whom they had usurped the properties of Villa Mascardi, in addition to Matías Santana. They all came from Chubut, from the lands usurped from Benetton, where the case of Santiago Maldonado occurred,” added Frutos.
The neighbor also considered that Jones Huala handles himself with the “Impunity guaranteed by links with the national government.”
Along the same lines, Alejandro Seguí, spokesman for the Bariloche Consensus forum, expressed himself in dialogue with Radio Continental. «Some time ago the neighbors detected Jones Huala in the area. They have seen it in areas of the Andean region. Now they find him in El Bolsón when he gets into a barbecue area and the Río Negro Police grabbed him,” he said.

The measure arose after the Chilean Prosecutor’s Office expressed interest in extraditing the Mapuche leader to serve the sentence that was imposed on him in his country in 2018.
