The new record of Pat Mahomes, the billionaire NFL quarterback who has the best contract of all time

His Kansas City Chiefs team secured the first place in the American Conference Playoffs after defeating the Las Vegas Raiders on Saturday, with an outstanding performance that allowed him to break a record of 11 seasons.

In July 2020, at the height of the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the name of Patrick Mahomes monopolized the front pages of the world’s leading newspapers. The quarterback of the NFL, the main American football league -a discipline that has almost no tradition outside the limits of the United States-, signed a contract extension that made him the best in the history of world sports: 503 million dollars for 12 seasons (two that remained and ten new ones), at a rate of $114,840 per day.

Mahomes was called to mark an era in the NFL, but at that time he had just 31 professional games in his first three seasons, two of them as a starter. This Saturday, this ultra-low profile megastar, broke a record that had stood since 2011: Passed for 202 yards and rushed for 29, giving him a total of 5,608 season yardssurpassing the Drew Breeswhich with the New Orleans Saints got 5.562.

The Kansas City Chiefs beat the Las Vegas Raiders 31-13 to secure the first seeding spot that will allow them to be released in the first round of the Playoffs, thanks to a record of 14 wins and 3 losses. Now they will look for their third Super Bowl appearance in the past four seasons.

Kansas City scored on their first drive when Mahomes found Justin Watson with a 67-yard deep pass. He then got a two-yard pass to Jerick McKinnon for the touchdown.

A Ronald Jones two-yard run early in the second quarter put the Chiefs up 14-3 and they appeared to be firmly in control of the game.

After a Kadarius Toney touchdown was ruled out for holding an opponent, the same player made up for it by rushing 11 yards for a score on the next play.

A one-yard run by Isiah Pacheco in the fourth made it 31-6, but the Raiders cut the deficit with quarterback Jarrett Stidham connecting with Hunter Renfrow for an 11-yard touchdown pass.

It was a convincing victory for Andy Reid’s team, which will now enjoy a bye before the playoffs begin. “It’s important, it’s like winning a playoff game”Mahomes said of securing the break.
