Today, the Hunter is still a niche car, with UAZ selling several hundred units a month (excluding orders from government departments). However, this model can no longer bring profits sufficient for the development of the company. Moreover, “Hunter” is presented in too narrow a niche for UAZ to count on the growth of car sales in the coming years. Therefore, the company is likely to eventually replace this model with a modern one.
The domestic designer announced the publication of a series of renders that will reveal the possible appearance of the new UAZ-3151 Kamrad 2023-2024 SUV. It is this model that can replace the Hunter. However, it is possible that both cars will be simultaneously delivered to the Russian market, since Kamrad is likely to be a more expensive product. The presented novelty, most likely, will be built with the direct participation of a foreign partner. But recently, UAZ management stressed that all new projects of the company will be carried out on its behalf.
That is, in this case we are talking about creating a new car that will be sold under the brand name of the Ulyanovsk Automobile Plant. The enterprise will not transfer its own capacities to a third-party manufacturer and rename its model range. This, by the way, indirectly indicates that Kamrad, like other UAZ novelties, will not copy foreign cars.
On the other hand, if the presented project is implemented, then this novelty will be largely unified with its prototype. In particular, UAZ can borrow a foreign platform, engines and transmissions for an SUV, since it will take a lot of time to develop these components from scratch and require multimillion-dollar investments that the company cannot allocate.
