It’s brand new, very beautiful, all fired up… Well, that was the first few minutes. Because barely inaugurated, the new walking circuit already looks like a recycling center. “A shame,” says municipal guard Stefaan Nevejan.

“A new one and a half kilometer unpaved trail was inaugurated Wednesday morning. It connects a Flemish forest reserve to 12 hectares of forest previously purchased by the province. Twelve parking spaces were rebuilt with water-permeable material, and a new picnic area and an oak avenue were created,” according to the Newspaper. Some small improvements still need to be made, such as the planting of 1,300 flowering and berry bushes and 1,800 native trees and shrubs. But this natural beauty is already wasted, barely open to the public.

There are indeed clandestine landfills there. “From this green waste, invasive alien species can be spread,” explains Stefaan.
