The Norwegian executioner’s appeal to be released from solitary confinement was rejected – 2024-02-18 05:13:36

A Norwegian court rejected Anders Breivik’s appeal against the state. The serial killer denounced serving his sentence in solitary confinement.

In yet another attempt to end his solitary confinement in prison, Anders Breivik sued the Norwegian state, alleging “inhumane treatment”.

Anders Breivik sued the Norwegian state for violating human rights, an argument rejected by an Oslo court on Thursday, February 15.

The far-right killer is serving a 21-year prison sentence, which can be extended as long as Breivik is deemed to represent a threat to public safety.

As of 2022, Breivik is being held in the Ringerike maximum security prison, on the shores of the lake where Utoya Island is located, where he killed 69 people on July 22, 2011.

It was preceded by his bomb attack in Oslo, which claimed the lives of eight people.

Although the serial killer tearfully said in his testimony that solitary confinement is a “nightmare” and that he thinks about suicide every day, the detention conditions described during the trial would be the envy of prisoners around the world.

The director of the prison emphasized that Breivik has much more space than any other prisoner in the penitentiary.

In particular, he has three rooms at his disposal – a living area, a study area and an exercise area – upstairs.

Downstairs he has at his disposal a kitchen, a TV room with an Xbox console, a dining room and a visiting area, which he shares – not at the same time – with another prisoner.
