The ordinary session of the Andean parliament in Laâyoune, a new consecration of the Moroccanness of the Sahara (MM. Mayara and Talbi Alami)

Laayoune- The Speaker of the House of Councilors, Naama Mayara, and the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rachid Talbi Alami, affirmed on Monday that the decision of the Andean Parliament to hold its ordinary session in Laayoune constitutes a new consecration of the Moroccanness of the Sahara.

The holding of the regular session of this organization, made up of parliamentarians representing five countries (Bolivia, Colombia, Ecuador, Peru and Chile), has a special meaning and supports the efforts made by official and parliamentary diplomacy, he told the press. Mr. Talbi Alami, on the sidelines of the visit of members of the Andean parliament to the capital of the Moroccan Sahara.

The “very symbolic” holding of this meeting of the Andean parliament is a new confirmation of the Moroccanness of the Sahara, he argued, adding that this flagship event is part of the strategy of the First Chamber and its relationship with the Andean Parliament, in application of the High Directives of HM King Mohammed VI aimed at supporting South-South cooperation and sharing experiences between African and South American countries.

In addition, the Speaker of the House of Representatives indicated that the members of the Andean Parliament, visiting the Kingdom from July 1 to 9, at the invitation of their Moroccan counterparts, were “impressed” by the large-scale projects launched in Laayoune and the efforts made by the Kingdom for the development of its southern provinces.

For his part, Mr. Mayara indicated that the holding of the ordinary session of this parliamentary organization confirms once again the support for the Moroccanness of the Sahara, adding that this trip to Laayoune enabled the Andean parliamentary delegation to learn firsthand. ongoing development projects in Laâyoune.

He noted that these projects wonderfully illustrate the level of socio-economic progress in the Laayoune-Sakia El Hamra region and the development efforts aimed at meeting the aspirations of the local population.

Site visits made by members of the delegation to several economic, socio-sporting and cultural projects in Laayoune are part of the efforts made by the House of Councilors to promote South-South cooperation, particularly between Latin American countries, Africa and the Arab world, noted Mr. Mayara.

The Speaker of the House of Councilors also stressed the importance of this visit in economic development and increasing the volume of trade, as well as the exchange of experiences and expertise, in accordance with the High Guidelines of HM King Mohammed VI, in terms of consolidating South-South cooperation.

The Moroccan parliament and the Andean parliament had signed, in July 2018 at the headquarters of the House of Councillors, a memorandum of understanding aimed at establishing channels of communication and parliamentary interaction through the exchange of visits, experiences, information and documents.

Under this memorandum of understanding, the Moroccan parliament benefits from the status of advanced partner with this parliamentary organization.

The Andean Community Parliament is a parliamentary organization created in 1979 with the aim of harmonizing legislation and accelerating integration between the member countries of this group.
