The Palestinian Foreign Ministry comments on the decision of “Trinidad and Tobago” to officially recognize the State of Palestine

Palestine – The Palestinian Ministry of Foreign Affairs welcomed the decision of the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago to recognize the State of Palestine and considered it “an important step that is consistent with international law and resolutions of international legitimacy.”

The Palestinian Foreign Ministry said, “Trinidad and Tobago’s recognition of the State of Palestine is an important step that contributes to supporting international efforts to end the Israeli colonial occupation and achieve peace and stability in the region.”

It welcomed the statement issued by “the Government of Trinidad and Tobago, in announcing its decision, during which it stressed the importance of recognizing the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination on their land and to live in their independent state in freedom, security and safety, and that this is the only way to achieve a just and comprehensive peace in the region.”

The Ministry once again called on all countries of the world “that have not yet recognized the State of Palestine to take this step as soon as possible, in confirmation of the international community’s determination to end the suffering and injustice to which the Palestinian people are exposed, and to restore all of their legitimate and inalienable rights, first and foremost their right to self-determination in Its independent, sovereign state with East Jerusalem as its capital.”

The Republic of Trinidad and Tobago joined Jamaica and Barbados in officially recognizing the State of Palestine, in a decision taken by the government during the Council of Ministers meeting in Trinidad.
