Reading is still at the top of the list of popular leisure activities. No wonder: no other hobby gives us the opportunity to completely relax, switch off and immerse ourselves in other worlds at the same time. Browsing is even more fun in a cozy reading corner!
What does the ideal reading corner look like?
On the one hand, it is a quiet retreat with a comfortable and homely atmosphere, but on the other hand, it is also equipped so that “bookworms” and “readers” can make themselves comfortable with their favorite reading material without any hassle. Suitable furniture is needed for this. Very important: A sufficiently large bookshelf. Visually it can adapt to the furnishing style of the apartment, but when it comes to functionality there are a few things to consider. This means book fans can immediately see their home library with an open shelf. You can safely pull out the book you want with just one touch. In addition, a shelf full of books looks very homely. Not only that: it gives the room an intellectual and classic touch. Disadvantage: With an open bookshelf, the compartments – and the books too! – be dusted regularly. This is not necessary with a closed bookcase. Here, however, the view of the private library is denied, which could potentially affect the overview. In addition, the reading corner is no longer immediately recognizable as such. Ultimately, however, personal taste should decide. And whether it’s a bookshelf or a bookcase, the main thing is that there are enough compartments for reading material!
The seating option: a cozy oasis of well-being
No one wants to sit on a hard, uncomfortable chair to read. However, there is usually no space for a complete couch in the reading corner. The ideal alternative to the classic armchair is a rocking chair. It has compact dimensions, is wonderfully comfortable and looks very inviting. In addition, the gentle rocking movement underlines the relaxing effect while reading. If you want to put your feet up, choose a model with a footstool. When the stool is not in use, it can serve as a practical place to rest your cell phone or a cup of tea. Otherwise, a small side table also completes the furnishings of the reading corner.
Make sure you have the right lighting
If your eyes tire quickly when reading, it could be due to poor lighting. However, if the letters blur in front of your eyes, you may have poor eyesight. This should definitely be clarified by an ophthalmologist. However, sufficient light is of course important when reading.
Different types of lights are suitable for the reading corner:

- Table lamps
- Clamp lamps for attaching to bookshelves or chairs
The light should be aimed precisely at the book, which is why ceiling lamps that illuminate the entire room are rather unsuitable, especially since they do not radiate much comfort and are often even blinding. Wall lights have the disadvantage that they usually cannot be adjusted individually. An illumination level of 300 to 500 lux is usually recommended for reading. A color temperature of up to 3300 Kelvin provides warm light and creates a cozy atmosphere.
Create a cozy reading corner with little effort
Sufficient space for books, comfortable seating and good light: these are the prerequisites for relaxing hours in the reading corner. You can simply shut out everyday life!
