When preparing dishes on the grill, it is no less important to prepare a delicious side dish to go with them. Even the simplest potatoes can become it, because they can be prepared in various ways. Combine different spices, herbs, and to make it even tastier, make a homemade sauce. Vaida Budrienė, the communication manager of the “Iki” shopping chain, says that when the weather warms up, customers look more often at products suitable for outdoor grilling, and those who want to spend less time in the kitchen willingly add ready-to-cook grilled dishes to their baskets.

“We try to ensure that customers enjoy not only the highest quality, but also a variety of tastes, so this year’s range of dishes for the grill is really wide, and a large part of it consists of Lithuanian products that are highly valued by customers. Although Lithuanians traditionally grill kebabs, steaks or ribs in barbecues, ready-to-cook fish and seafood are also popular. There are also various products for side dishes: potatoes prepared for grilling, mushrooms,” says V. Budrienė.

Vilma Juodkazienė, a representative of the “Iki” shopping chain, says that when preparing a side dish suitable for a variety of meat dishes, such as barbecue, the most important thing is the balance of flavors.

“Various vegetables are especially suitable for meat dishes. They give freshness to such dishes. If you are tired of the traditional tomato and cucumber salad, you can also grill your favorite vegetables. Vegetables prepared in this way will acquire an extraordinary, smoky taste. True, the same rules apply when grilling vegetables as when grilling meat or fish. The most important thing is not to overcook them”, says V. Juodkazienė.

According to her, all kinds of vegetables can be easily marinated before cooking. It’s easy to do. All you need to do is mix quality olive oil with your favorite spices or fresh herbs and keep it for 10-15 minutes.

“If you grill cut eggplants, zucchini, onions or peppers, you should grill them for a few minutes until they are nicely browned. Of course, if you bake potatoes, it will take a little longer. For example, it may take an hour to cook a large uncut potato,” says the representative of “Iki” and shares a recipe for specially prepared potatoes, which will be able to compete with the main star of the dish due to attention.

Grilled potatoes with butter and garlic. To make such potatoes, you will need: 2 kg of potatoes, 2 cloves of garlic, 100 g of melted butter, salt and ground black pepper.

How to make them? Wash the potatoes clean and remove their skins. Then make horizontal slits, trying to keep the spaces even so that they cook evenly. Melt the butter in a bowl, press in the garlic and season with salt and ground black pepper. Brush each potato with this mixture, making sure to get the butter into the gaps as well.

Wrap each potato in foil to protect them from the direct heat of a campfire or grill. If you want the potatoes to cook faster, boil them in water for 10-15 minutes before applying butter and grilling.

To take the dish to new heights, spare a few minutes to make the sauce. It is perfect for a wide variety of meat dishes.

Cottage cheese and Greek yogurt sauce with greens. To make the sauce, you will need: 200 g of cottage cheese, 2-3 tablespoons of Greek yogurt, 2 cloves of garlic, fresh herbs, salt and ground black pepper.

How to make it? Mix cottage cheese with yogurt and chopped fresh herbs: dill, onion leaves. Season with salt and ground black pepper, press in the garlic. If you want the sauce to have a creamy texture, you can mash the cottage cheese with an electric blender.
