The portrait of the President of the Government, Pedro Sanchez, surrounded by the names of leaders “of the extreme left” says goodbye to the latest edition of ARCO among the void of collectors, since it has not been acquired or received proposals. finnish artist Riiko Sakkinenauthor of the painting, has lamented that despite the fact that “everyone” has photographed and talked about the work, entitled ‘My favorite leaders of the extreme left’, “no one has even asked about the prices.”

The portrait, which shows the head of a Pedro Sánchez with a slight smilewith names to the right and left –Evo Morales, Hugo Chávez, Lenin, Stalin, Pol Pot or Fidel Castro, among others–, has a price of 16,000 euros.

Sakkinen has also not seen interest in acquiring his other proposals, a dozen scarves with the Spanish flag under the title ‘This is Spain’ and a series of small drawings – ‘We are all Kings in exile’ – with the image of Don Juan Carlos affirming that «now he is a fugitive». «A Spanish collector told me that it is good art, but he believes that no one in this country would consider buying it. If it were from a national artist and not a migrant, I am sure that the museums would buy them », he criticized in statements to Europa Press.

Faced with “zero” interest from collectors for his works, Sakkinen recalled that at ARCO 2020 he did sell the frank portrait entitled ‘Franco was not as bad as they say’ – which forms a “trilogy with the portrait of Sánchez and another of the King Emeritus of 2019–, but it went to a Finnish museum. “The art world here is very patriotic and nationalistic, he doesn’t want guiris», has denounced the Finnish artist, who has exhibited his works at the Forsblom gallery stand.
