The Prefect of Dakar bans the Silent March on Tuesday, February 13

The Prefect of Dakar, Chérif Mouhamadou Blondin Ndiaye, issued a note, this Monday, February 12, 2024, prohibiting the “Silent March” that the opposition and civil society want to hold, this Tuesday, to say no to the postponement of the Presidential.

“I acknowledge receipt of your letter mentioned in reference, by which you plan to organize a march, on Tuesday February 13, 2024, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. following the Jet d’eau roundabout route to FASTEF (Ex ENS) located on Avenue Bourguiba, on behalf of the Platform of Non-State Actors.
In return, I inform you that the occupation of the chosen route at the selected times risks seriously disrupting the free movement of people and their goods in view of the mobility problems currently noted. Consequently, I regret not being able to respond favorably to your request and invite you to propose a new itinerary which will be the subject of an Instruction. Knowing how to count on your high sense of responsibility, please believe, Gentlemen, in the assurance of my distinguished consideration,” we read in a press release made public.
