POLITICS – Depardieu does “shame on France”, denounced the Minister of Culture, Rima Abdul Malak. “I am a great admirer of Depardieu, he is a genius of his art”declares Emmanuel Macron. During a special edition of C à vous, on France 5, this Wednesday evening, December 20, the president ardently defended the former cinema monster, indicted in 2020 for rape.
“You can accuse someone, and maybe there are victims, and I respect them and I want her to be able to defend their rights, but there is also the presumption of innocence that exists,” he said, while denouncing “a manhunt” against the actor.
“The Legion of Honor is not there to preach”
Emmanuel Macron was also questioned about the Minister of Culture’s desire to remove the Legion of Honor from Depardieu. Rima Abdul Malak announced last Friday the launch of a “disciplinary procedure” in order to remove this title from him, after the broadcast of a Supplementary Investigation where Depardieu makes obscene remarks.
“The Legion of Honor is an order which is not there to preach morality. It is not on the basis of a report that we remove the Legion of Honor from an artist », he replied in the sequence below.

Gérard Depardieu has been indicted since 2020 for rape, after a complaint from an actress, Charlotte Arnould, accusations which he refutes. In France, he is also the target of two complaints for rape and sexual assault, the last of which was filed by actress Hélène Darras.
