“The President of Algeria is drunk.” A composite video that garnered thousands of posts

A video circulated on social media, whose publishers claimed that it showed Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune drunk, sitting at a table with alcoholic drinks, and garnered thousands of posts and comments, according to the AFP fact-checking service.

In the video, the Algerian president appears as if he is sitting in front of a table with alcoholic drinks, and he speaks very slowly.

“The president of Algeria is drunk,” the accompanying caption read.

The video, from this Facebook page alone, has garnered more than 4,000 shares and hundreds of comments on Twitter.

However, the video is actually a composite. After cutting it into static scenes, the inspection revealed that it was taken from a periodic media meeting that the Algerian president conducts with representatives of the national press.

Algerian television and other local media published the full video of the meeting on February 24.

And when comparing the original video with that of the trader, it is possible to notice the match in the movement of the hands before he puts his right hand on his head, starting from the 37th minute.

The image of the table that was added to the video was found published years ago, and the makers of the misleading version deliberately slowed Tebboune’s speech to appear drunk.
