A Spanish court sentenced Wissam Ben Yedder, the former Seville and current Monaco player, to a suspended prison term of 6 months, and fined the player an amount of about 134 thousand euros, due to tax evasion during his time with the Spanish club Seville.

Prison sentences in Spain are rarely served for sentences of less than two years, as long as the crime does not involve violence, and the accused has not been previously convicted.

The ruling was issued after Wissam Ben Yedder’s defense reached an agreement with the judge and the tax authorities.

Ben Yedder, who played with Seville, Spain, between 2016 and 2019, failed to pay the taxes due on time in 2017, according to documents submitted to the court dated March 9, and their details were revealed on Tuesday.

And it was stated in a document that the French striker paid 225,000 euros in late taxes at the request of the Tax Authority, but the amount did not include the benefits he received, in addition to not announcing a sponsorship contract with the sportswear company “Adidas”.

Ben Yedder later paid 51 thousand euros, to calculate these amounts in addition to the interest.

Players such as Cristiano Ronaldo, Lionel Messi and Diego Costa faced tax cases in Spain, and they all agreed to pay huge fines in exchange for the settlement.
