The Realities of Immigration to the United States: Deportation and Visa Consequences

2023-07-12 03:00:07

One of the desires of hundreds of people is to enter the United States, some temporarily and, for others, it is a long-term purpose in search of the “American dream.” However; when the regulations are not complied with, either by being a visa beneficiary or by entering irregularly, the purposes may end up ‘falling apart’.

In this sense, the authorities have been emphatic, since whoever does not comply with the provisions not only risks deportation, but also sets a ‘negative’ precedent in the future. “Don’t risk your life and his life savings just to get him out of the United States when he gets here,” was the call from Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas a few months ago.

The ‘nightmare’ of a Mexican

On TikTok, several Latinos constantly share what their process has been before entering the United States or when they already tried, but without success. Other clips focus on the reason that led to his deportation, even after entering through legal channels, but by failing to comply with guidelines that are the “golden rule” in that country.

“I arrived in May and was deported in December. I spent the six months that allow you to be in the country ”and she left during that period so as not to lose her visa. The young woman arrived by land in Mexico City (where she stayed for two weeks) because she had been recommended it and another suggestion received was to return in the same way; however, she opted for the air route.

Although she passed the Migration review, she could not re-enter, because when she only had to pick up her suitcase, believing that everything was “going well”, in her words, they “grabbed” her and her plans ended up “frustrated.”

Later, they searched his suitcase and continued to ask more questions. Minutes later, according to her, they took her cell phone and one of the officers searched the gallery for evidence that she had been in Mexico. Later, she reviewed the WhatsApp chat with her then partner and discovered that the Mexican had worked irregularly in the United States.

“There was no way to deny things anymore. That’s when they make me put all my things in my suitcase, because aside from everything they took from me, they left it thrown away (…), and I had to put everything back. So they send me to the famous immigration room,” said the woman.

Once there, he had to wait between four and five hours without the possibility of talking on the phone, at first. “They literally held me there,” she said. At that point she received two pieces of news: the first confirmed her return to Mexico that same day, but another confirmed one of her fears: the visa would be withdrawn from that moment for five years.
