Moroccan and foreign media reports circulated news that filming of the famous American movie “Gladiator 2” had stopped inside Ouarzazate studios due to the strike of Hollywood film actors and screenwriters, which may delay its scheduled release on November 22.
And a private source from the company producing “Gladiator 2” revealed, in a statement to Hespress, that “the news circulated is untrue; Firstly, because the filming of the film’s scenes in Morocco ended more than 20 days ago, and secondly, because the filming stopped for a long time in Malta, where the crew arrived in order to complete the remaining scenes, and he happened to be there on strike.
Regarding the impact of the strike, which began last Friday, on the filming of other cinematic productions in Hollywood, Morocco and Ouarzazate, the Hespress source revealed that “until now, no work is being filmed in the region, and the last film that was completed is Gladiator.”
In another context, Abd al-Latif Baghdi, a collective advisor in the municipality of Ouarzazate and head of the Social Business Association, said in a previous statement to Hespress that filming the movie “Gladiator” was able to save a group of young people from unemployment, by providing them with job opportunities in light of the large migration that affected the southeast in recent years due to living conditions and the closure of hotels and cafes due to the crisis.
Baghdi stated, “The production company supervising Gladiator in Morocco organized a tight organization with international standards and was at the disposal of the labor force to solve its problems, amidst security reinforcements, and contributed to the region’s economy.”
And the same group counselor continued that “after the stagnation that the city of Ouarzazate witnessed over the past years due to the outbreak of the new Corona virus in various countries of the world, the Gladiator 2 movie came to revive the city,” highlighting that the movie is world famous and would add a lot to the radiance enjoyed by Hollywood Morocco.
